Roskilde Festival is Northern Europe's largest music and arts festival and one of the most storied cultural events on the continent. Founded in 1971 by two high school students and a journalist, it has grown from a small gathering into an eight-day celebration attracting 130,000 participants and over 180 acts each year. The festival has hosted some of the biggest names in music history, including Bob Marley, Radiohead, Björk, Kanye West, Prince, Kendrick Lamar, and Bruce Springsteen.
What sets Roskilde apart is its non-profit foundation. Since 1972, all profits have gone to charitable causes — primarily supporting children and young people. The festival is powered by roughly 30,000 volunteers, and its Orange Stage is one of the most iconic festival stages in the world. Beyond music, Roskilde is a city unto itself: art installations, activist spaces, food experiments, and a legendary warm-up period before the music even starts.
The 2026 edition runs June 27 through July 4 in Roskilde, about 30 minutes west of Copenhagen. Independent, non-profit, and unforgettable since 1971.
