Sierra Elizabeth Ferrell, born August 3, 1988, in Charleston, West Virginia, is an American singer-songwriter whose music weaves together folk, bluegrass, country, gypsy jazz, tango, and calypso influences. After learning guitar and singing in her teens, she adopted a nomadic lifestyle in her early twenties, hitchhiking, freight-hopping, and living in her van while busking between Seattle and New Orleans. This period of wandering deeply shaped her artistic identity and rootsy musical sensibility. After self-releasing albums Pretty Magic Spell (2018) and Washington by the Sea (2019), Ferrell signed with Rounder Records and released Long Time Coming in 2021 to critical acclaim, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Americana/Folk Albums chart. Her fourth album, Trail of Flowers (2024), earned her four Grammy Awards and cemented her status as a leading voice in Americana and folk music. She has earned the Emerging Act of the Year prize at the Americana Honors & Awards and collaborated with artists including Billy Strings, Zach Bryan, the Black Keys, and Diplo.
