Madra Salach (Irish for "Dirty Dog," pronounced "Mod-ra So-lak") are a five-piece contemporary folk band from North Dublin, Ireland, founded in 2023 by Paul Banks, Adam Cullen, and Dara Duffy. The group, completed by Jack Martin on guitar and flute and Maxime Arnold on drone, has quickly risen through the Irish music scene with performances at Electric Picnic, Beyond The Pale, and All Together Now festivals. Steeped in the Irish folk tradition but bringing a youthful, experimental interpretation, Madra Salach blend mandolin with electronic synth sounds, crashing drums, and the depth of harmonium. Their debut EP "It's a Hell of an Age" draws on influences ranging from Lankum and Lisa O'Neill to Portishead, Boards of Canada, Just Mustard, and even Tuvan throat singing from Siberia, resulting in a powerful and distinctive twist on traditional Irish folk music.
