Yasmine Hamdan is a Lebanese singer, songwriter, and actress born in Beirut in 1976. She first gained recognition as half of the pioneering electronic duo Soapkills, who helped define the Beirut underground music scene in the late 1990s with their blend of Arabic trip-hop and electronic pop. After the duo dissolved, Hamdan embarked on a solo career that has positioned her as one of the most important voices in contemporary Arab music. Her solo albums "Ya Nass" (2013) and "Al Jamilat" (2017) showcase her ability to bridge Arabic musical traditions with Western electronica, indie rock, and art pop. Hamdan gained wider international recognition through her appearance in Jim Jarmusch's film "Only Lovers Left Alive" (2013), performing alongside Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston. Her music represents a vital bridge between East and West, tradition and modernity, earning her a devoted following across the Arab world and beyond.
