MESSIE is the stage name of Tessa Hills, a DJ and producer from Wellington, New Zealand. She began her music education at 15, learning drums and guitar before studying music technology at Massey University. During lockdown she taught herself to DJ on borrowed equipment, and by late 2023 she had landed her first radio slot on George FM. Her kinetic sets weave together Baile funk, Jersey club, juke, ghetto tech, and jungle into a genre-bending blend that caught the attention of Fred again.., who invited her to open his Perth show in front of 35,000 people. That co-sign catapulted MESSIE from New Zealand's underground club scene to international stages, including Glastonbury and Truck Festival. She released an official remix of Fred again..'s "Places to Be" featuring Anderson .Paak and CHIKA, which became her most-streamed track with over four million plays on Spotify. Her recent singles "GIMME A BREAK" and "TEETH" reflect a maturing sound that incorporates more melody and emotion while keeping the dancefloor energy that defines her sets.
