The David Hazeltine Trio is led by American jazz pianist David Hazeltine, born October 27, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Encouraged early in his career by Chet Baker to move to New York, Hazeltine relocated in 1992 and established himself as one of the most recorded contemporary jazz pianists, with over 35 albums as a leader and hundreds more as a sideman. His working trio features drum legend Louis Hayes and bassist Peter Washington. Rooted in the bebop tradition of Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Sonny Rollins, Hazeltine is equally celebrated as a composer and arranger, known for transforming pop tunes into jazz standards. His six piano trio releases for the Japanese Venus label — including tributes to Bill Evans, Horace Silver, Bud Powell, and Burt Bacharach — have won him a large following in Japan. He also teaches at Purchase College in New York.
