Michael Pipoquinha is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer born in Limoeiro do Norte in the countryside of Ceará state, who began performing professionally at just eleven years old. A viral video in 2010, when he was only thirteen, brought him international attention, with Victor Wooten describing him as a musician who takes the bass to a new level. Pipoquinha's style, informed by his Brazilian heritage, combines virtuosic slapping techniques with ferocious grooves and serious melodic and harmonic knowledge. He has collaborated with influential Brazilian artists including Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Hamilton de Holanda, and Ivan Lins, and his 2025 album A Minha Pele features guest appearances from John Patitucci, Victor Wooten, and Richard Bona, cementing his status as one of the world's most exciting young bassists.
