Maustetytöt is a Finnish girl group consisting of sisters Anna Karjalainen and Kaisa Karjalainen, whose name translates to Spice Girls in Finnish. Originally from Vaala, the duo masterfully combines laconic Finnish disco with melancholic pop, drawing inspiration from traditional Finnish schlager and the legendary band Leevi and the Leavings, all delivered with their trademark serious, deadpan performance style. The sisters achieved international fame through their appearance in Aki Kaurismäki's 2023 film Fallen Leaves, performing the song Syntynyt suruun ja puettu pettymyksin. They won Rock of the Year and Band of the Year at the Emma Awards in 2020, with their first two albums topping the Finnish album chart. Their melancholy truly speaks all languages, resonating with audiences far beyond Finland's borders.
