Kassi Valazza is an American folk and country singer-songwriter who grew up between Prescott and Phoenix, Arizona, writing her first song at age ten. After dropping out of art school at Arizona State University, she moved to Portland in 2014, where the deep wells of folk, country, and psychedelic inspiration sparked a musical career that would earn comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny, and the humanistic freak-folk of Michael Hurley. Her debut album Dear Dead Days fused the Southwest's rustic romance with the Pacific Northwest's rocky realism, earning a cult following and a deal with Fluff & Gravy Records. Her sophomore album Kassi Valazza Knows Nothing appeared on Ann Powers' Favorite Songs of 2023 for NPR and Bandcamp's Best Country Music of 2023. Now based in New Orleans, her third album From Newman Street continues her journey through the rich American musical landscape with poetic songwriting and a voice of rare beauty.
