Bridge City Sinners is a rowdy neo-folk band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2016 when lead singer Libby Lux and upright bassist Scott Michaud began busking together on the city's sidewalks. Built around a traditional string-band lineup of banjos, fiddles, clarinets, and washboards, the group spans the continuum from prohibition-era jazz to Appalachian death folk, delivering it all with punk ferocity. Their self-released album Unholy Hymns hit #70 on the Billboard charts for top current album sales in 2021, and tracks like "Devil Like You" and "Kreacher" have amassed millions of streams. Fiercely DIY, the Sinners put out every record on their own Flail Records label and built their following through relentless touring rather than industry machinery. Their boot-stomping live shows have taken them from street corners to festival stages at Punk Rock Bowling, Muddy Roots, and Oregon's Bluegrass String Summit, earning a reputation for blending talented musicianship with raw, confrontational energy. Their 2024 album In the Age of Doubt continued to push at the boundaries between dark folk, bluegrass, and punk rock.
